Biosketch
Carel F.W. Peeters (Nijmegen, 1982) studied
Statistics, Political Science, and Philosophy.
He obtained an M.A. (with greatest distinction)
in Political Science, specializing in
Quantitative Research Methodology and Sociometrics,
from the VU University Amsterdam (VUA).
He also obtained an M.Sc. (with great distinction)
in Statistics, specializing in
Mathematical Statistics and Applied Mathematics for
the Behavioral & Life Sciences,
from the Leuven Statistics Research Center (LStat)
at the Katholieke Universiteit
Leuven (KUL). He obtained his Ph.D. in Bayesian
Statistics at Utrecht University (UU),
with a concentration in Bayesian theory and
computation for constrained inference problems.
His
dissertation
was the runner-up for the
2013 Classification Society Distinguished Dissertation Award as
well as the recipient of the
2015 Anne Anastasi Distinguished Dissertation
Award as awarded
by Division 5 (Evaluation, Measurement, & Statistics)
of the American Psychological
Association.
While working on his Ph.D. thesis he held a research fellowship at the
Strategic Chair Integrity of Governance at VUA. Furthermore,
he has been employed as a
research scientist at the Psychometric Research Centre of
CITO, Institute for Educational
Measurement. In 2012, he became a postdoctoral researcher
and subsequently Assistant Professor of Biostatistics
at the Department of Epidemiology & Data Science
of the Amsterdam University Medical Centers (AUMC), location VUmc.
As of winter 2021, he is a Associate Professor of Statistics at the
Mathematical & Statistical Methods group (Biometris) of
Wageningen University and Research.
His
research focuses on the interface of
high-dimensional multivariate statistics,
statistical machine learning, and complex data.
